Het is een lang seizoen geweest waarbij het kampioenschap in juni van start ging in Rusland en werd woensdag afgesloten in Mantova. Het Gebben van Venrooy Yamaha team heeft hoogte en dieptepunten gekend maar over het algemeen is het een positief seizoen geweest.

Brent van Doninck kende een constante dag tijdens de laatste wedstrijd in Mantova en wist in beide manches op een zeventiende plaats over de finish te komen. De starts waren niet goed waardoor de Belg in beide manches van buiten de top twintig terug naar voren moest zien te komen. Toch wist hij acht punten te scoren en verzekerde zich hiermee van de zestiende plaats in de eindstand van het kampioenschap.

Tijdens zijn laatste Grand Prix wist Strijbos een WK punt te pakken en kende verder een zeer emotionele dag. Het team wil graag van deze gelegenheid gebruik maken om Kevin het allerbeste toe te wensen voor in de toekomst. Daarnaast wil het team iedereen die betrokken was bij het team dit jaar heel erg bedanken: rijders, monteurs, sponsors, alle andere - bedankt!

Het ziet er naar uit dat het wereldkampioenschap MXGP in 2022 van start zal gaan in februari en hierdoor zal het team zich nu gaan voorbereiden om op tijd klaar te zijn voor de start van het seizoen.

Gebben van Venrooy’s MXGP season ends at Mantova finale

Coming into the MXGP finale taking place at Mantova, Kevin Strijbos announced he’s made the tough decision to retire from MXGP after a very successful and long career. The team are very grateful to have spent a year working with Strijbos to see out his MXGP career and he will always be welcomed under the awning at future MXGP events the Belgian attends.

It’s been a long season with the season getting underway in June at Russia and coming to a close at Mantova. The Gebben van Venrooy Yamaha team have had plenty of highs and lows but overall it’s been a positive season.

At the final round of the series, it was a consistent day for Brent van Doninck as he finished both moto’s in seventeenth. Starts weren’t kind to the Belgian as he needed to work his way from outside the top twenty in both moto’s but he secured eight championship points to finish the season sixteenth in the MXGP championship standings.

During his last MXGP event, Strijbos was able to secure a championship point finishing twentieth in the second moto - it was an emotional day.

The team would like to take this opportunity to wish Strijbos all the best for the future. After a long season, the team would also like to express their thanks to everyone connected to the team: riders, mechanics, sponsors and everyone else – thank you!

With the 2022 MXGP season expected to get underway in February the team will now prepare for next season.
